Abraham Lincoln

President Abraham Lincoln

Lincoln Elementary School is named for President Abraham Lincoln. The school was built in 1975, and it was the second school in the city to be named for the 16th President of the United States. The first was built in 1915 in Washington Township at the intersection of U.S. 30 and 33. It was closed and demolished in 1965. The new Lincoln Elementary was built as an "open concept" school with six "pods" for grades one through six. Since the original construction, walls have been added as have additional classrooms. The school’s first principal was Thomas Cook.

Lincoln offers the English Language Learners (ELL) program. Lincoln students feed into Shawnee Middle School and Northrop High School. The school is located in the Board of School Trustees District 1.
