Learning Enhancement

At Lincoln, all students receive rigorous daily instruction in reading and math, designed to build strong foundational skills while promoting critical thinking. In grades K-3, students receive explicit phonics instruction aligned with the science of reading to support their growth as confident, capable readers. Across all grade levels, students engage in literacy experiences including read-alouds, vocabulary instruction, fluency practice and more, ensuring they develop the skills necessary for success.

Community Service Projects: At Lincoln, we believe in nurturing compassionate and responsible citizens. Each grade level participates in at least one community service project each year, helping students develop a giving heart and a sense of civic responsibility. Projects vary annually but have included raising funds for Kate’s Kart, collecting soup for local food pantries during the Soup-er Bowl, donating socks for Sock-tober to support the FWCS clothing bank and spreading joy by singing at local nursing homes. Through these experiences, our students learn the value of kindness, generosity and community involvement.

Book Vending Machine: Reading is rewarding! Students have the chance to earn special tokens to "purchase" a book from our book vending machine, encouraging a love for reading and celebrating positive behavior.

Move to Learn: Energizing the body to fuel the mind! This program incorporates movement breaks throughout the school day to boost focus, engagement and overall well-being.

Reading Buddies: Younger and older students team up for shared reading experiences, building confidence, fluency and a love for books while fostering mentorship and friendships across grade levels.

Real Men Read: Male role models from the community visit our classrooms to read with students, promoting literacy, fostering meaningful connections and showing that reading is for everyone!

Taking Root - Wellness Program: Our 4th and 5th grade students take part in this program to develop healthy lifestyles through fun and engaging challenges. Focused on physical wellness, nutrition and overall well-being.

JA in a Day: Through a partnership with Junior Achievement of Greater Fort Wayne, community volunteers spend a day at Lincoln teaching students about business, economics and financial literacy. This hands-on program helps students build real-world skills and an understanding of how money and businesses work in their everyday lives.

CATCH Curriculum: Through this health and wellness program from Purdue Fort Wayne Extension, students learn about making healthy choices, staying active and developing lifelong habits for a strong mind and body.

ACPL Rolland Center: History comes to life when Mrs. Schoolman visits Lincoln! Through engaging lessons and fascinating artifacts from the Rolland Center, students explore our nation's history and learn about our school's namesake, Abraham Lincoln. Some classrooms enjoy these enriching experiences on a weekly basis.
